As soon as I found out I was pregnant with baby number 2 due at the end of August, I knew I wanted to create a newborn knit hat pattern that would be perfect for the transition of seasons here in Maryland.
The time between the summer and fall seasons in Maryland can bring pretty unpredictable temperatures, so I wanted to create a beanie for my daughter that would be lightweight enough to bring her home from the hospital in no matter the temperature. To start, I found the perfect weight yarn. For this newborn knit hat pattern, I chose "Feels like Butta" yarn from Lion Brand in color Periwinkle. The yarn is a medium 4 weight, and extremely soft to touch. The pattern is completed by knitting up in the round on size US 7 (4.5mm) circular needles. Although the yarn has a very soft feel, when knitting to gauge, the yarn is very breathable, making it ideal for both warm and cool weather.
Having a baby in the winter? Check out The Logan Beanie here for a thick newborn knit hat pattern perfect for the winter time and very cold weather.
If you are looking for a newborn hat pattern for spring or a newborn hat pattern for early fall, this hat pattern and yarn combination are perfect.

Want to knit this hat pattern for an older child? No problem! Follow the hat sizing guide to get the perfect fit.
